John Brown Lives! and BluSeed Studios are teaming up bring historian David Blight to the Adirondacks on Saturday, December 1.
Called the definitive biography on the escaped slave who became one of the greatest orators and writers of his generation, a leading abolitionist and political activists of the nineteenth century, FREDERICK DOUGLASS: Prophet of Freedom is garnering nationwide praise.
“We are excited and honored that David is returning to the Adirondacks,” said Martha Swan, Executive Director of the freedom education and human rights project, John Brown Lives! “David began studying Douglass over 35 years ago, and with this riveting biography, he brings us a lovingly-etched portrait of an extraordinary, complex, singular American—a man of his time and for ours.”
Blight is a professor of American History and Director of the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance and Abolition at Yale University. He is the author or editor of a dozen books, including Race and Reunion The Civil War in American Memory, and has been awarded the Bancroft Prize, the Abraham Lincoln Prize, and the Frederick Douglass Prize, among others.
A reception to welcome Professor Blight will be held at BluSeed Studios on Saturday, December 1 from 6:30-7pm. Then, he will be engaged in lively conversation and book talk with Dr. Margaret Washington, Professor of History at Cornell University and Sojourner Truth Biography, from 7-8pm.
Books will be available for purchase, and Professor Blight will sign books at the end of the night.
A free, signed copy of the book will be given to the first teacher and the first librarian who present themselves, with identification, at the door.
Suggested donation for the event is $15.
